The Police Department exists to safeguard the lives and safety of all persons within the Village, to protect property, and to insure that to all persons receive equal protection of the law.  The Department has the responsibility to preserve the public peace, to detect and prevent the commission of crime, to enforce the laws and ordinances of the State and Village, to apprehend and to arrest criminals and those who violate or are lawfully accused of violating such laws and ordinances, to preserve order at public places, and to maintain the safe and orderly flow of traffic on public streets and highways.Officier Olson recieving his promotion to Leuitenant

Specific duties of the Village Chief of Police include the following:

·    Under the supervision of the Village Administrator and the Village Police and Fire Committee the Police Chief is responsible for the overall management of the Village of Winneconne Cheif Running with "New" Squad CarPolice Department. Including all officers and support staff as assigned and serves as the Village’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer.

  • Responsible for maintaining public peace and insuring all state laws, Village ordinances and directive are uniformly enforced, without bias.

  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and enforcing department operational policies and   procedures in accordance with state guidelines as adopted by the Village Police and Fire Committee.

  • Responsible for maintaining departmental readiness, including, but not limited to officer training,   equipment procurement and staffing requirements.

  • Responsible for maintaining regular patrols of the Village and engages in patrol activity as required.

  • Responsible for maintaining department discipline including, but not limited to, performance and other personnel matters.

  • Responsible for maintaining all police records, including evidence, in accordance with state law

  • Responsible for preparing all reports as required by state law and by other law enforcement agencies.

  • Prepares monthly activity reports for presentation to the Village Police and Fire Committee.

  • Attends all meetings of the Village Police and Fire Committee and Village Board as directed.

  • Respond to citizen complaints and elected officials queries in a comprehensive and timely manner. 

  • Be available to speak to educational, civic, or other groups on Public Safety issues in the community.

  • Preparation of the annual Police Department Budget for review by the Village Administrator and consideration by the Village Police and Fire Committee and the Village Board.
