Never hide the architecture!
Wallscape, construction signage in Venice, Italy
Because of its long and glorious past, Venice's architecture is varied and fascinating. From the Byzantine, the Baroque, and the Gothic to the Neo-Classical, many of Venice's most distinct facades carry a Byzantine or near-Eastern influence. A trip down Venice's Grand Canal--by gondola or vaporetto--is the perfect opportunity to see the facades of these renowned palaces in all their glory.

Recently, a friend of Commerce Color was visiting Venice and sent us a photo of the construction signage on an ongoing renovation of Casino Di Venezia on the Grand Canal. This fantastic wallscape is apparently constructed of several panels and attached to the construction scaffolding in front of the building. The visual is a life-size photograph of the renovated building face with a strategically placed marketing message in the upper center area. What a great way to minimize the unsightly construction process.

Choose a Professional Installer
wallscape installation
Installing wallscapes and building wraps can be a tricky business. Most professional installers know how printed wallscape materials need to be handled and what installation techniques work well in various circumstances. The installation shown above by Premiere Signs in St Louis actually drapes from a cable across an open space on the building façade. Once fastened and secured, it will withstand most severe tests of wind and rain events without becoming damaged. Get the most from your super-sized signage efforts by choosing a reputable installer. See the finished installation on our wallscapes/building wraps page. If you need additional information call us toll-free at 888 781-7702 or email us here.
Five steps for wallscape buyers
Wallscapes and building wraps
Use our five point checklist to make your building wrap and wallscape buying experience a good one. If you have any questions or need any further assistance call us toll free anytime. 888 781-7702.
1. Location: Consider nearby traffic patterns and how your potential audience will see your message. Are they walking the sidewalks? Riding in cars, buses or commuter trains? Consider these factors and choose a location that will maximize your exposure. You'll also need to work closely with the building owner or manager to make sure the space you are considering is available.
2. Permits and Licenses: You'll need to identify what local and state permits and licenses are required to post a wallscape or building wrap. Violating local posting laws can prove to be very expensive if city authorities demand you remove your signage before it has a chance to be seen. Not to mention the adverse effects of the bad publicity you may receive if you haven't satisfied all of the legal obligations.
3. Installation and Fit Once you've decided where you want to hang your sign, it is critical to work with an experienced installer. A reputable installer understands how to work with the building manager to achieve the best and most efficient installation. This is an important step that can make or break your effort. High winds can easily rip a poorly installed sign causing it to fall into the street below.
4. Good Design As with most print advertisements, one creative axiom is true: less is more. Keep your message simple and use vibrant color for big impact. Hire a graphic design professional to design your wallscape or building wrap. It's money well spent, every time.
5. Print with the Best Everything hinges on how well your wallscape is printed and finished. Whether you've chosen vinyl or mesh as your substrate, be sure the grand format printer you use is reputable and has good wallscape and building wrap experience. Review their portfolio of samples. Make sure color reproduction is vibrant, type is crisp and the finishing is reliable. Ask them to give you some addresses where you can see their wallscapes and building wraps in the field. Be sure they're in contact with your installer or have them recommend a good installer.

Mystery of the Stolen Cardinals.
before and after vinyl billboards depicting the missing cardinals
Thanks to the ingeniously creative minds at Schupp we now understand the mystery of the stolen cardinals. Early one morning on my way to work I became aware of a tragic robbery of the two cardinals from the beautiful St Louis Cardinals ticket info billboard. Like everyone else I was appalled at the blatant defacing of our local redbird icon. Little did I know that the two vinyl redbirds were carefully snipped from the billboard leaving the apparent impression of vandalism. A few short days later they mysteriously reappeared. As if the missing birds had torn themselves free and flown over to the 550 KTRS radio board complete with the faux spray painted headline announcing their new home. Very clever indeed!
