In 1999, when the new Winneconne Public Library opened, a room dedicated to Rose M. Coughlin was introduced to the public. The room was donated by her grateful son, James. It was from his mother that James, affectionally know as Jimmy, developed a love and appreciation for books. The Coughlin family has been Wisconsinites from the time the first family members immigrated; hence the varied collection of predominately Wisconsin books. The room quickly became known as the categories as Wisconsin cities, towns, and villages; countries; histories; industries; wars; & veterans; travel guides; and local writers including James P. Coughlin. A history, One Man, One Village, written by Michael Goc, provides a visitor an intriguing history of Jimmy and the Village of Winneconne. Jimmy continues to collect books wherever he can find them. Railroad Days in Winneconne, dedicated to him and his sister, Jean, is a recent addition. This collection is meant for browsing and is a vital aspect of the Winneconne Public Library. Visitors are welcome!
