How to Recycle Christmas lights
veterans thank you

Each year, waste in the United States increases 25% between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day—about 1 million extra tons.

The most common non-recyclables contaminating the recycling waste stream during the holiday season include lights, bubble wrap, cellophane, string/rope, ribbons and bows, and Styrofoam and other forms of polystyrene foam.
Most people used to just throw those old lights in the trash and eventually they would wind up in the landfill. Many people don’t realize these lights will never break down. When they do finally settle into the earth, they can start to give off hazardous chemicals.
Light strings and cords should never go into curbside recycling carts, but some local stores will accept these items for recycling in the month of December. Proceeds from the sale of recycled material go to different causes so you may want to research your preferred drop-off location ahead of time.

Some local options include:
− Habitat Restore in Oshkosh (working light sets only)
− Krueger True Value in Neenah
− Lowe’s Home Improvement

Back to School Safety

It’s that time of year again when parents and children across the country are preparing to go back to school. ADT would like to help you with your preparations by offering these simple safety tips

Officer Honer School Resource Officer

NEW SRO at Winneconne Schools

School has been in session now for a few weeks. By now all the students, staff and parents should have noticed the new school resource officer (SRO), Officer Honer from the Winneconne Police Department. After the Winneconne School Board and the Village Public Safety Committee agreed that it would be in everyone's best interest to have an SRO full time at the schools, Officer Honer was assigned to that position. Part of the reason to put him at the schools was to handle all incidents involving any ordinance or criminal violations. Officer Honer is doing much more than handling violations, he is building positive relationships with the students, faculty and parents Office Honer is at all three schools daily.

no bags in recycling totes

Just a friendly reminder - no plastic bags in recycling carts. It creates unnecessary waste and they get caught up in the sorting equipment. Thanks!
