ATV/UTV Routes in the Village of Winneconne
The Village of Winneconne Board of Trustees has designated all Village streets as ATV/UTV routes. Following several months of study and discussion, the Board determined that allowing ATV/UTV use on all Village roadways would help distribute traffic throughout the community rather than concentrating usage on a single street.
As summer begins, the Village would like to remind residents and visitors of the rules governing ATV/UTV operation within Village limits.
Operator Requirements
- Operators must be at least 16 years of age and possess a valid driver's license to operate an ATV/UTV on Village streets.
- ATV and UTV operators born on or after January 1, 1988, must complete an approved ATV/UTV safety certification course before operating on public ATV/UTV trails and areas in Wisconsin.
Safety Requirements
- Eye protection is required for all operators.
- All operators and passengers under the age of 18 must wear a helmet.
- Headlights must be illuminated and visible at all times.
- Hand signals must be used when turning.
- ATV/UTVs must operate in single file.
Operating Restrictions
- ATV/UTVs are not permitted on sidewalks, except as specifically authorized for snow removal activities.
- The maximum speed limit on Village ATV/UTV routes is 25 mph unless a lower posted speed limit applies, such as in school zones.
