About the committee

The Public Safety Committee shall review the operations of the Police Department and the Village portion of the Joint Winneconne-Poygan Volunteer Fire District. To that end, the Public Safety Committee is responsible for reporting and making recommendations for Village Board action the following duties:

1. Policy and procedural reviews with regards to governance and oversight, including, but not limited to, budgetary, policy, risk, and liability;
2. Annual review of Department and Police Chief performance;
3. Review non-disciplinary personnel actions proposed by the Police Chief, vote recommendations and, when appropriate, refer proposed actions to the Village Board for approval;
4. Recommend an annual operating and capital budget proposal for all projects and operations related to the Police Department;
5. Advise the Village Board as to recommended changes to the Village ordinances, Police Department policy manuals, and Police Department budget.
